1 Person Shot with Stun Gun; 3 in Custody After 41-A Court Fight
One person was shot with a stun gun and three people were arrested Tuesday afternoon after a fight broke out in the waiting room of the 41-A Courthouse.
One person was shot with a stun gun during a fight at the 41-A District Court in Shelby Township Tuesday afternoon, and three people were arrested.
Shelby Township Police Chief Roland Woelkers told Patch a fight broke out around 2 p.m. between three people waiting to go into court on a domestic case.
Two Utica police officers who were at the court on unrelated cases witnessed the verbal altercation turn physical and helped the Shelby court officer subdue the people involved in the fight by firing off their stun gun at one person.
Utica Police Chief Dave Faber said both of his officers deployed their stun guns on the individual, but only one shot hit the person.
Woelkers said the two men and one women, whom he believes were from Shelby Township, were immediately taken into custody. No serious injuries to the person stunned by the Taser or anyone in the waiting room were reported.
The names of the people arrested have not been released. Woelkers said they will most likely be arraigned Wednesday on charges of resisting arrest and disturbing the peace.
The courthouse was cleaned up and remains open for the day.
"The court is an environment where people are very emotional and obviously there are two sides of the case," said Woelkers. "Sometimes it's not unusual to have verbal altercations and heated discussions but it's very rare that it ever breaks into a physical altercation because we have a court security officer sitting right there watching the whole thing happen."

The waiting room is small and often over-crowded. It's a powder keg waiting to explode.

I agree completely...squeezing that many people who are suing each other into such a small space is just asking for problems.

Maybe the Macomb Township residents will build a state of the art facility for the court. Personally I would rather read about the troubles at the court house in someone else's back yard, not mine.
I still think both locations of the 41-A district court should be consolidated into one. No other District Court house in the state of Michigan has 2 locations with the same name and same duty.... Why?

You are right mike. You just might be reading about the two crazy people that assaulted that woman. I read on something and the initial fight started with the father, Kenneth King hitting the woman and the woman strongly fought that man back, but her husband took that man down. Soon after his daughter Dena King tried to come after the woman from behind and I tell you I heard that woman wasnt playing that and really beat that young girl up. I don't blame her one bit!! She is honorable in my eyes for taking on them animals and walked away after being assaulted with no injuries and the others went to jail. Way to go to the woman and her husband.
