Badly Decomposed Body Found Hanging From Tree in Wooded Area

The Shelby Township police made a gruesome discovery Friday afternoon near the M-53 overpass.

A badly decomposed body was found Friday afternoon hanging from a tree near the M-53 expressway and 23 Mile Road in Shelby Township.

Lt. Mike Coady told Patch the person was hanging by the neck, and appeared to have been there for a "very long time."

Coady said the body was found in a wooded area, near a strip of land where builders have been clearing trees to make way for development, but the area was not visible to any homes or office buildings.

"It was in a wooded area and now that the leaves have dropped its more sparse," he said.

The body was discovered around 2 p.m. after a motorist alerted the police that they had seen something suspicious. When police arrived, they made the gruesome discovery.

"It hasn’t been classified as s suicide at this time," Coady said.

The Macomb County Medical Examiner was to perform an autopsy Saturday to determine the cause of death.

Police have not released the person's identity.

UPDATE: Man believed to have died from suicide.

The first thing I thought of reading this article is the Sea of Trees in Japan. People go there to commit suicide over failed life paths, relationships, etc. 100's are found annually. I hope what they have there, doesn't catch on here.

So sad that this person obviously had no one in his life who cared enough about him to even report him missing for 6 months

You're right Joseph. 20 years old he had no idea how much worse or better life can get. I recall not getting good enough grades in high school to make my Parents happy and dreading the day the report card would arrive in the mail. That's why I told my kids frequently, no matter how bad things seem to be, Someone will always be there to help. You just need to speak up and let people know when life is getting you down. I think it's still good advice to tell them that there will always be hope.
