Brent Freeman is running for Trustee. Get to know this candidate before you vote.
Brent Freeman, 53, has lived in Shelby Township for eight years. He has not held public office before.
He has been a long standing member of the local Chamber of Commerce, having served as an an Ambassador, a Treasurer, and a Board Member. He's active serving committee at Kensington Community Church. He enjoys photography and have been asked to assist with taking the photos for the Shelby Lions football organization. He is married to Angela Freeman and they have four adult children and five grandchildren. He works as a comptroller for a manufacturing company in Sterling Heights.
1) What led you to try for the post of trustee initially?
I believe the Board of Trustees do not listen to the citizens of Shelby
Township. Their previous votes to re-zone land parcels have benefited
developers but hurt the average homeowner. I believe you need a person
that has business sense and common sense to make such decisions that
will help Shelby Township. I possess the qualifications to make such
decisions.
2) What do you plan to change if elected?
I would like to improve the budgeting and financing of the Township. We need to continue to hold expenses while increasing our revenues. I would like to report our finances and issues to the public more frequently and accurately so
the residents understand them better. I would like to restore honesty,
integrity and professionalism to the Board of Trustees.
3) If elected, what township issues would you like to focus on?
We need to continue to focus on public safety and police and fire pension
issues. We also need to have a better plan to maintain our parks and
rec.
4) What personal and professional accomplishments are you most proud of?
I am proud to have served as the Treasurer for the Sterling
Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry for many years. I am
proud that I had an opportunity to volunteer on the Shelby Sidewalk
committee until the current board decided not to renew my position. I
am also proud to serve at Kensington Church and help people who are in
need. I enjoy volunteer work and helping people. I am proud that I
have successfully assisted people with their financial plans. I am a
team player and have the ability to build solid relationships with
people.
5) Is there one person who has been the most influential in your life?
Who?
My father and mother have always been an inspiration. They have
raised me to have respect for others and they taught me good work
ethics. Hard work will beat 50% of the competition and I believe that
I am a hard worker.
6) What are key ways you would have residents make a difference
locally?
I would like to have more residents voice their opinions
prior to the final decision making. As a Trustee, I would like to
encourage people to visit during specific hours of the month so they
can voice their opinions about important matters.
7) What do you like most about the Shelby Township community?Do you have a favorite spot in Shelby?
I like that Shelby Township has good sports programs for our children. I
think that the parents and children are friendly and like playing
sports. My wife Angela and I like visiting the restaurants, but I think my favorite spot is watching our grandkids play baseball and football on the Shelby
Township fields. We love ending some days at Soup and Scoop with the
grandkids.

Mr. Freeman, I like what you have to say. Especially the part where you would like to listen to the residents before voting. Good luck!

Mr. Freeman is spot-on about listening to the residents First, before coming to any decision on issues that come before the township board. All to often one gets the feeling that the decision was made before the meeting began. Only after all the facts have been discovered and analyzed can a proper decision be rendered. It is my opinion that Mr. Freeman has the character, integrity, qualifications and respect for the residents to serve as Trustee for our township.

It's not about the people who scream at meetings, it's about keeping the taxpayers interest as the main priority even when ten people with a stake in the project speak to you. The average taxpayer will not weigh in on every decision, no one represents them. Every decision is going to upset a couple dozen citizens; it's keeping the other 60,000 citizens in mind when you make that decision that is important. I fair Mr. Freeman will listen to special interest of towing contractors, pensioners and developers over the needs of the people who he really represents.
