Community to Celebrate Life of Mr. B's Owner Dennis Forbes
The community will gather Saturday to honor Mr. B's owner, Dennis Forbes, who passed away.
The community will gather for a celebration of Mr. B's owner Dennis Forbes' life.
Forbes passed away on Tuesday from natural causes. He was 62 years old.
The restaurant, located at 48550 Van Dyke Avenue, was closed on Tuesday and Wednesday as employees learned of the tragic news. Normal business hours resumed Thursday.
Forbes, of Keego Harbor, owned the Shelby Township location for more than 18 years, along with his brother, Scott.
Trent Terry, manager of the restaurant, told Patch that the community will remember Forbes for his generosity.
"He was a very, very nice man. He was very giving and donated to local schools," he said.
Terry said Forbes was also very well known in the local music industry. Dennis and Scott, along with five band members, made up the country-rock band The Forbes Brothers. The band played around the metro Detroit area and annually at the WYCD Detroit Hoedown.
Per Forbes' wishes, there will be no funeral. Instead a celebration of his life will be held Saturday at Mr. B's from 1-5 p.m.
Terry told Patch the restaurant is bracing for large crowds Saturday.
"We’re expecting to be crammed in here, with more people outside. I am talking thousands of people," he said.

Dennis was well loved by many, My family has known Dennis every since he opened. I enjoyed going there. Some of us Red Hat Ladiers would go there and always had a good time. My son worked there for seven years. Dennis will be missed. May You Rest In Peace Dennis, Gone To Soon.

This is so sad. My husband has known Dennis for years... We were just in Mr. B's for date night last weekend talking to Scott and asked about Dennis and Scott said he was doing great. This must have come as a shock to him and the rest of their family. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you. We will be there on Saturday to celebrate Dennis' life. He was a sweet man.

Dennis Forbes and family was always there for the citizens of our community. Dennis was always accommodating with donations to local community service clubs, and sports teams.. I would sit and brainstorm on ways to help others. Always a smile, friendly and full of life. He will be truly missed our prayers go out to his family.

I am shocked and saddened by the passing of Dennis. What a wonderfully sweet and talented man! Whenever I dined at Mr. B's, he would always come over and chat. Sometimes we talked about his band, and he was kind enough to give me a copy of their CD. It's one that I play over and over again -- It was that good! I will miss his cheerful smile and that bubbly personality.

Such a great loss for many friends, family, and the community of Shelby Twp. I am so sorry to hear of this I have known Dennis and Scott for years and used to hang with them at B's in Troy for Sunday nite jam open mic nite years ago and have made B's in shelby our date nite spot because of him and Scott. He was truly a wonderful, warm, sweet, and very generous giving man who always donated to my daughters school for the annual auction. My loving thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Dennis may you rest in peace and always shine down on those you have left behind!!

Words can't express the sadness that I felt when I heard of Dennis's passing. I will always remember him as a kind caring person who truly enjoyed knowing everyone that stepped into his and Scott's extended living room (Mr. B's). My heart goes out to Scott and his family.

We are so saddened to here of Dennis' passing. Mr B's was our hangout for many years before we moved back to FL almost 2 years ago. Dennis was so supportive of my husband's culinary career. He'll be missed. Val & Steve Rehrman

Dennis will be greatly missed by all that knew him. I feel great sorrow for his brother and best friend Scott. It comes as such a shock to say goodbye to someone who had no apparent illness. Every time I go into B's I will still be looking for the Forbes brothers... I am deeply saddened.
