County Unveils 2013 Plans Van Dyke and Hayes Construction
The Macomb County Department of Roads has announced a new construction project on Hayes Road between 21 and 23 Mile Road to begin in June 2013.
While most construction is wrapping up for winter, county officials announced Monday major road projects for 2013, including the widening of Hayes Road between 21 and 23 Mile Road and the widening of Van Dyke north of 25 Mile.
Come June 2013, residents in Shelby Township and Macomb are going to want to seek alternate routes as construction on Hayes Road between 21 Mile Road and 23 Mile Road kicks off.
The Macomb County Department of Roads announced Tuesday that Federal funds were allocated for Hayes Road, and will cover 80 percent of construction cost. The 20 percent match as well as engineering and right of way purchases is going to be shared equally between the Macomb County Department of Roads, Shelby Township and Macomb Township, which means of that remaining 20 percent it'll be divided 50 percent department of roads, 25 percent Shelby, 25 percent Macomb.
"This is awesome news for the township's general funds," said Macomb County Department of Roads Director Bob Hoepfner. "All around, it leverages everyone’s dollars."
Van Dyke Reconstruction
Just as motorists on Van Dyke Avenue begin to feel relief from the orange barrels on Van Dyke between 24 Mile Road and 25 Mile Road, construction will move north one mile on Van Dyke in 2013.
“It’s going to be a five-lane pavement similar to the one we’ve constructed all the way up," said Hoepfner. "It will make the Van Dyke corridor five-lanes from M-59 to 26 Mile Road and it will be the last link of the Van Dyke improvement."
Overall, the county is scheduled to tackle more than $38 million in road projects next year.
