Once Again, Shelby-Utica Patch Readers: Debate the Issues, But Stay Classy
There was a barrage of insult-slinging last weekend from some readers. As a result, again, we have had to require editor approval of all comments for the time being on Shelby-Utica Patch.
Name calling. Insults. Abusive language. Veiled curse words.
We know it's election season, Shelby Township, and people are keyed up for local races.
However, we stand by our terms of use.
We welcome discussion, but when we have readers violating our terms of use repeatedly, it does not create an environment conducive to healthy debate.
And that's not Patch.
So we say: Debate the issues. Act like grown-ups. Play fair. Play nice.
For the time being, we'll be moderating our comments closely and requiring editor approval before you see them.
As stated in our terms, our rules boil down to three main principles: “Keep it clean,” “Don’t try to trick people,” and “Treat others as you’d like to be treated.” Easy, right?
Keep the conversation going, but stay classy, Shelby and Utica.

Thank you! How sad we as adults often have to be reprimanded like children. Shame.

Outstanding! I'm tired of people hiding behind the text! We need to have HEALTHY debate.

I welcome a little censorship and civity... getting tired of defending personal attacks. Although, if I were the only one being attacked I doubt others would be complaining. It isn't freedom of speech to

This is the BEST move Patch has made to this site, in terms of its many updates. Thank you Patch!

Thank you for this article. I just found this site and was hoping to get my information about the people running for office but I am shocked at the vehement and hate spewed on here, especially from Mr. Guarnieri. I hope he takes this article to heart or find a blog/site where he can be angry and hateful and people do not mind.

Perhaps your "terms of use" should read that only if you compliment a candidate your post will remain. Anything that is FACTUAL is removed if it is negative about a candidate. This site is so biased, how can you even call yourselves journalists? Readers have the right to debate with FACTS, and I have done so without foul language or slander. Perhaps if I post a PDF of a conviction sheet from a court you will understand it is not MY opinion, it is FACT???
Matt Guarnieri I understand your frustration...I thought I had a 1st Amendment right, apparently not here!
