Handgun Stolen From Utica Apartment

The following information was supplied by the Utica Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The Utica police are investigating a handgun theft from a Utica apartment on Hahn Street last Monday.

The homeowner told police he noticed his Springfield Armory 1911 .45-caliber handgun was missing from the top drawer of his file cabinet when he returned home Monday. According to the police report, the victim told police he had left the bedroom window cracked a little when he left the house and that the thief or thieves were able to get through the window screen.

The homeowner told police he had recently moved into the Utica apartments and nobody knew that he kept his gun in the file cabinet. Inside the gun was a seven-round magazine.

The apartment was dusted for fingerprints and the gun was entered into the LEIN system as stolen.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Utica Police Department at 586-731-2345.

Hmmmm. I lived in the one level apartments farther down on Hahn. As a divorced dad, I took my kids down to the Grant Park a lot. I stopped when I noticed a lot of low life hanging around the park and sitting around the apartments across from the park. I moved when I would not feel comfortable with my kids in the area of that park.
