Local Barbershop Singers Get Ready for Annual Show
Two local choruses serenade Patch readers as a sneak preview for the event.
They'll make you feel so young.
And if not, at least this group of 40 barbershop performers will have you singing the words to that song, along with others made popular in the "Rat Pack" era.
The combined Heart of the Hills and Guardians of Harmony barbershop choruses will present their annual concert, "You Make Me Feel So Young," at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Stoney Creek High School in Rochester. Tickets for the show are $20 adults, $17 students and seniors; they can be purchased at the door or ordered online or by phone.
The choruses will perform songs from the 50s and 60s; the show will feature special guests, including a comedy quartet called the Hot Air Buffoons.
"It's good, clean entertainment — something you can bring your grandma or your kids to," said Matthew Tipton, one of the musical directors of the show.
Performers range in age from 35 to 82; they are from across Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties — and beyond.
The two choruses are chapters of the Barbershop Harmony Society. The Heart of the Hills chorus, based in Oakland County, is conducted by Mike Hartrick of Auburn Hills; the Guardians of Harmony chorus, based in Macomb County, is directed by Tipton.
