Macomb County Sheriff Mounted Deputies to Participate in Presidential Inaugural Parade
The two reserve deputies will represent the Macomb County Sheriff's Office during the 2013 ceremonies in Washington, D.C.

Two Macomb County Sheriff's Mounted Division reserve deputies will participate in the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Parade this month in Washington, D.C., according to Sheriff Anthony Wickersham.
As part of the Multi-Jurisdictional Police Drill Team, Reserve Deputies Paula Keena and Anita Schmidt will represent the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Jan. 21, joining the parade and witnessing the presidential swearing-in ceremony and inaugural address.
"Of the 2800 applications submitted, The Michigan Multi-Jurisdictional Mounted Police Drill Team was one of two groups from the State of Michigan selected to participate in this prestigious event," according to the Sheriff's Office. "This unit also represented the State of Michigan at the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Parade."
Mounted police officers from the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, Oakland County Sheriff's Office, Wayne County Sheriff's Office, retired Michigan State Police, Clinton County Sheriff's Office, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Tuscola County Sheriffs Office and the Toronto Metropolitan Police Service comprise the the Michigan Multi-Jurisdictional Mounted Police Drill Team.

Can I ask who is paying for this? Seems like a long way to travel with a horse to be in a presidential parade. Don't they have officers with horses in DC?

The Jackson County Officers are paying out of their own pockets to represent Michigan. As the wife of one of these participants, I resent the snide remarks made by those of you who do nothing in your communities. These men and women in Jackson are UNPAID VOLUNTEERS!! Please have more respect for those among us that give of their time to protect and represent us at an event such as this.

The Macomb County Sheriffs Office needs these Deputies patrolling streets, not glamorizing Obama! Once the backlog of evidence & cases is finally creating criminal convictions, then we can send some Deputies on vacation. Until then, keep them working on arresting the hundreds of murderers & rapists that are currently walking freely in Macomb County!

As the article says, the Deputies going are "Reserve" Deputies. The Reserves are not paid by the Sheriff's Department, they are volunteers. All of the expenses in the Mounted Division are the responsibility of the Reserve, not the County.

I was proud to find that Michigan was being represented in the parade. The reserve sheriff's mounted patrol was selected from numerous groups that had volunteered and the fact that they had to pay for it out of their own funds shows that They are proud of Michigan and are willing to show the world who we are.
