Macomb County Wrestlers Compete in Day 1 of State Finals

Macomb County had several wrestlers competing in the first round of the state wrestling finals Thursday at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Several won their bouts and will compete in today's quarterfinals; several others will compete Friday morning in the consolation round. Patch is covering the finals live; follow along in our blog.
Here's how the wrestlers did on Thursday:
Both wrestlers won their opening round bouts, Shaun Lee with a win over Christian Laurderback of Walled Lake Northern at 130, and Greg Dolland, who beat Tyler Gross of Salem in the 160 weight class.
Victor Nitos lost to Bryan Smith of Temperance-Bedford in the 215 weight class, while Jeff Tautolo advanced after North Farmington's Majd Mokbel was injured in the first round.
L'Anse Creuse North
Macomb's L'Anse Creuse North wrestlers were 1-2 on the day Thursday. Eric Maniaci beat Chase Kallil of Plymouth in the 125 weight class with an 8-4 decision, but LaMonte Baker (285) lost to Ildo Luca of Walled Lake Central and Gideon Gaiter (140) dropped to Said Youssef of Plymouth, a 7-6 decision.
Jake Johnson topped Evan Hoshaw of Brighton 4-0 in the 135 class to advance to the quarterfinals.
New Baltimore Anchor Bay
The Anchor Bay wrestlers split the day in the win and loss columns: Eric Rybarz and John Bourcier won, while Zac VanOverbeke and John Yank lost.
Rybarz beat Kevin Haughn of Portage Central in teh 135-pound weight class, while Bourcier topped Nick Mason of Detroit Catholic Central in the 160 class.
VanOverbeke lost to Dimitrus Renfroe of Wayne Memorial at 215, and John Yank fell to Dakota Juarez of Grand Haven in the 152 class.
Both Eisenhower wrestlers will have the morning off as they rest up for the quarterfinals after winning their opening-round bouts. Connor McDill defeated Jarad Fernandez of Southgate Anderson at 103 pounds and Charle Myers beat Conner Marion of Walled Lake Central at 171.
Lakeview and Lake Shore
Both Lakeview wrestlers won on Thursday: Joe Main beat Travis Wetzel of Ithica at 189 pounds, and Jordan Betham topped Brandon McCann of Midland Bullock Creek at 152.
Lake Shore's JaQuan Moore fell to Nate Limme of Lowell at 125 pounds.
