Meet Shelby Township's Newest Fireman: Kyle Simon
Kyle Simon is excited about joining the Shelby Township Fire Department.
Fireman Kyle Simon, 28, is one of three new medic firemen joining the Shelby Township Fire Department. The young men are undergoing basic training and will have to pass a one-year probationary period before being considered part of the force.
Simon is most excited about learning to operate new pieces of equipment.
"It has been difficult for me, because I've never had the experience of operating the trucks and pieces of aparatus, but it is something that I am excited to do," Simon said. "I think I'll be good at it."
Simon said the Shelby Fire Department has always been his number one choice. Simon also transferred from the city of Warren, where he worked with fellow trainee Steven Dettloff II.
Simon loves being a fireman because he gets to help people every day.
"Even though your life and your safety can be on the line, deep down there is an excitement you feel when the alarm goes off," Simon said. "You get to rush out of the garage and know that you will be helping someone."
Outside of the fire department Simon also enjoys physical fitness, but his No. 1 priority will still always be his family. He loves spending time with his wife and children when he's not on duty.
"My family will always be No. 1," said Simon.
