A Chesterfield Township woman, her son and his friend went on a theft spree late this month, swiping a slew of goods and even a vehicle from local properties, police said Wednesday.

The trio, who lived together in an apartment off Jefferson Avenue, were arraigned via video Wednesday in 42-2 District Court in New Baltimore on felony charges, Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said.

According to Myers:

• Joanne Hubbard, 40, faces a charge of receiving and concealing stolen property, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison upon conviction. She was held in lieu of a $50,000 cash bond.
• Her son, Ted O'hearn, 18, was charged with a 20-year felony of first-degree home invasion, 10-year felony of concealing stolen firearm, five-year felony of unlawfully driving away an automobile/stolen vehicle, 15-year felony of second-degree home invasion and five-year felony of receiving and concealing stolen property more than $1,000. He was held on a $75,000 cash bond.
• Steven Los, an 18 year old from Clay Township who had been staying with his friend and his mother, faces the same charges as O'hearn. He was held on a $50,000 cash bond.

The felony counts stem from a high number of vehicle break-ins reported Sunday from residents along Jefferson Avenue and nearby neighborhoods. Many of the victims told police they left their cars unlocked overnight and had items such as GPS units, cameras, iPods, phones and loose change missing.

On Tuesday, residents in the same neighborhoods called 911 to report their homes were broken into during the afternoon. A homeowner on Wand Drive reported that thieves who broke into his home also stole his 2010 Jeep. Police said that they found the Jeep abandoned following an accident.

Police said another resident on Sugarbush said two men broke a window by her front door but ran away when they realized she was home. A different home owner along Jefferson called 911 to say two men with the same description were fleeing his home with his belongings.

A Chesterfield officer was patrolling on foot when he saw the suspects running toward Patty Street, where a gray Chevrolet Blazer awaited them. The police officer told others on the force that the men were carrying suitcases and backpacks. Police soon closed in on them and placed them under arrest.

A witness told police that the trio live together in an apartment and were spotted unloading several bags from what is believed to be the stolen white Jeep earlier that day. A search of the apartment led investigators to the items reported stolen within the past few days, police said.
