Pole Fitness Center in Shelby Township Turns Taboo Upside Down

The pole dancing fitness revolution has hit Shelby Township. The first pole fitness studio in Macomb County has opened its doors inside of ReVamp Studio located on Schoenherr Road, just south of 23 Mile.

Sensual Fluidity Pole Fitness and Dance offers women 18 and older a chance to use the pole dancing technique as a way to lose weight, tone muscle, increase strength and flexibility and have a lot of laughs.

"Once people try it, they'll realize it's not taboo but actually a great workout," said owner of Sensual Fluidity Elizabeth Brower.

Brower's student Tressah Weirauch, a psychology student at Oakland University, said she the classes not only provide her with a great workout but also a mental break.

"I have a pole at home and when I get stressed out, I just flip on some music and dance alone," said Weirauch.

Brower added that learning how to do tricks on the pole is so exhilarating and most women are often hooked after experiencing their first flip.

"It's like acrobatics on a vertical pole," she said.

Brower was so intrigued by the fitness craze, that in 2008, she bought a pole for her home and taught herself moves by watching YouTube videos. Fast forward three years later; she took second place at the Great Midwest Pole Dance Competition in Chicago while teaching at Pole Addiction in Ferndale.

Brower, 35, of Clinton Township got the idea to open a studio in Macomb County after she noticed the craze was catching on and women from Macomb were driving to studios that were popping up all over Oakland County.  Sensual Fluidity opened inside of ReVamp in July.

Pole Dancing is For Everyone - Ladies Only at Sensual Fluidity

Whether you've always wanted to try pole dancing or can hang upside down using just your inner thigh muscles like the best of them, you'll find a class for you at Sensual Fluidity. Classes range from butt busters, to intro, advanced and dancing.

Most classes are drop-in and cost $25. Boot camps are also available. Class schedules are posted online at www.sensualfluidity.com.

Sensual Fluidity also offers private lessons and parties for up to 15 guests. Brower said women can bring in drinks and food to the studio during private parties.
