Police: Stranger Approaches 4th Child Friday
The Shelby Township police have confirmed that a fourth child was approached by a strange man Friday.
The Shelby Township police, parents and schools are on extremely high alert after police said a strange man approached another child Friday morning and offered the youngster a ride home from school.
The incident took place on 23 Mile and Dequindre roads Friday morning, police said.
This is the fourth time a man, with a similar description, has approached young children in the area in the past three weeks.
On Tuesday afternoon, police said the same man offered a ride to a Malow Junior High student who was walking home from school. The student ran home and reported the incident to a parent.
Last month, the man was sighted on a residential street twice near two elementary schools talking to young children. None of the children got into the man's vehicle, but they were able to help police with a sketch.
The children have described the stranger as Hispanic, in his mid-30s, tall and stocky. He has short black hair, a mustache and a tattoo on his right arm.
The Malow student said the man was wearing sunglasses and driving a small black SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Blazer.
On Tuesday, a letter was sent home to all Malow Junior High School parents, as well as to nearby elementary schools, warning parents to talk with their children about what to do if a stranger approaches them.
"We will be reminding our students of the need to remain alert at all times, stay in groups when outdoors and immediately report any suspicious behavior to a responsible adult," said Malow Principal Robert Hock.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Shelby Township Police Department at 586-731-2121 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP.

Why won't police give exact location & date of the last sighting. That would really help all of the concerned parents!!!!!!!

Why isn't anyone coming up with a license plate number or a partial one. Can't believe they can't catch this guy. He seems so obvious.

Jan, probably because parents teach their kids to run (good), not to go behind the car for a plate. But they might tell them to remember easy items like color and type of car, or any defects (damage, dents, scratches, paint, rust, wheels, etc.) as identifiers.

Kids should try to get the plate number at least some numbers. When I was a victim of an attempted predator attack I looked on the plate and that guy put brown paper bag paper to cover the plate. Do you think this guy has covered his plate? There are many predators in the area. You can look them up on line.

Are these kids alone when this happens? If I had children in elementary or Jr High (or even High school) I would be walking with them... with a camera. I know people work but what is more important your child or your job? Explain to your boss you will be later becuase you walk with your child because of this situation. Get with your neighbors and one take the morning and one take the evening and switch off. Do not let these kids by go off by themselves. Hopefully, this guy can be caught- very soon. When this happens it is very traumatic to the child as well as the parent.

There is no charge for this - it is my duty as a citizen in this community to share the knowledge I have to help keep the kids in our community safe. WOW apparently I live in a bubble and somehow missed ALL of this was going around me and my family. I will be having a talk with my oldest son first thing tomorrow morning. Even though it sounds like this creep is going to the older age Middle/High School, I will need to inform my 8yr old in his own age of understanding what is going on. Also, special thank you to Denny Strecker who wrote above offering stranger danger classes. I think what you are offering is absolutely great especially free of charge. Marina I look forward to seeing the demonstration video and hopefully it will give me some good tips to share with my family and friends. Thanks everyone for your information!
