Shelby Agrees to Participate in Reconstruction of Dequindre Road
Shelby Township to pay for portion of preliminary engineering work to reconstruct Dequindre Road.
The Shelby Township Board of Trustees has agreed to pay $20,000 to participate in the Road Commission of Oakland County’s engineering plan to reconstruct Dequindre Road between Long Lake (18 Mile Road) and Auburn Road.
Supervisor Richard Stathakis said funding for Shelby Township's share of the design costs has already been accounted for the in the 2012 budget.
The project will be 80 percent federally funded and the rest would be a cost-sharing agreement between the six communities Long Lake Road runs through.
The municipalities bearing the cost would be Troy, Rochester Hills, Sterling Heights, Shelby Township, and Oakland and Macomb counties.
The project is in the early design phase, with construction beginning in 2016.
In 2011, Shelby paid $42,000 in a cost-sharing move with several other communities to repave Dequindre Road from Auburn Road south to M-59. Planning Director Glenn Wynnn said that project is now complete.
