Shelby Township Relay for Life Raises Big Cash

More than $134,000 raised for American Cancer Society at fifth annual Relay for Life at River Bends Park.

Sunshine, smiles, and a lot of heart went into making the fifth annual Relay for Life walk in Shelby Township a success.

According to Relay for Life committee member Diana Humpries of Shelby Township, more than $134,000 was raised by participants.

The money will go to the American Cancer Society.

Margie Conn of Shelby Township, who is a committee member for the Shelby Township Relay for Life, said it was wonderful to see more than 500 people sign up to help out the cause.

"It's amazing. It makes your heart feel good to see everyone come together to help," added Louise LaFaive, of Clinton Township.

LaFaive is a teacher at Eisenhower High School and current preisent of the Relay for Life Committee.

The walk continues all day May 21 and until 10 a.m. May 22. People can come out to support the charity and enjoy food, music and games on both days, and a special Luminaria Ceremony at 10 p.m. on May 21.
