Shelby Township's new clerk, Stan Grot, assumed duties Wednesday, just moments after Judge Douglas Shepherd swore him into office.
Grot has a long history of public service employment and activities. He is a former Sterling Heights City Council Member; County Commissioner; deputy Macomb County treasurer; assistant Michigan secretary of state; Macomb County campaign chairman for Gov. Rick Snyder, and the Constituents Relations Representative for S.E. Michigan for Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette.
Grot said he will be relinquishing his position with the Attorney General's Office so he can work full-time as the Shelby Township Clerk.
Grot has lived in Shelby Township for nine years and is married to Sylvia. They have four children enrolled in Utica Community Schools.
"It's my community and I've invested in it," he said.

Welcome Mr. Grot. I know you will do a great job.
The last person who filled this job had issues near the end.
I just don't want to see any more elected officials voting their family members promotions within the township, voting in favor of their spouses clients, mishandling FOIA material or using Shelby Township voting machine property to profit from and put cash in their pockets.

I don't want to see any full time board members running their own full time business. One of these jobs would have to be a side job and in the interests I have seen in personal gain with some people I'm afraid the full time township position would suffer. I know of one full time board member who currently runs an insurance company in Warren and a new candidate for the position of treasurer who runs a successful industrial supply company in Rochester. I feel that both of these full time positions are just that. If the official has other business interests then I'm afraid we're dealing with a conflict of interest and we have no room for that in the Shelby Township Government.
