Morgan Students Help Lead Community Effort to Bring Cheer to Classmate

At only 11 years of age, Morgan Elementary student Joey Caretti has already spent nearly a fifth of his young life in chemotherapy for a rare form of brain cancer. Following the treatment, Morgan students learned that their classmate has leukemia.

To help bring their classmate strength, Morgan students are assisting a community project to collect "Get Well" cards that will be delivered in a big sack to their friend.

Morgan students - and many others across the district - have been creating individual cards in art classes. In addition, each grade has created a large card for each student to sign.

Anyone can participate in the community effort. Get well cards may be sent to Joey c/o: 22671 Eddy Drive, Macomb, MI 48044. Over the few weeks, the cards will be collected and delivered to Joey - unopened - in a large sack.

A Macomb woman spearheaded the card drive for Caretti. Her goal is to get 1,000 cards by Christmas.

We are having a Bone Marrow Drive for Joey on Monday, December 19th at Morgan Elementary from 2-8 p.m. We really need to get the word out. We are aiming for 1,000 registrants. Participants fill out a quick questionairre and then get a swab to the inner portion of their cheek.
