Concerts to Kick Off War of 1812 Tribute at Lake St. Clair Metropark

A three-day concert series on the waterfront at Lake St. Clair Metropark begins a summer-long tribute to the War of 1812.
Gates open at 4 p.m. Friday with entertainment starting at 5 p.m.
The band Gunnar & the Grizzly Boys performs at 7 p.m. with 38 Special taking the stage at 9 p.m.
Gates open at 1 p.m. Saturday with local bands performing at 2 p.m. Lorrie Morgan performs at 7 p.m. with the headliner, The Outlaws, playing at 9 p.m.
Sunday, the gates also open at 1 p.m, with 80’s Inc playing at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m, followed by Aaron Tippin at 5:30 p.m. and concluding with Joe Diffie at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are only $15 and are on sale at all TicketMaster outlets, including Wal-Mart. Ages 10 and under are free when chaperoned with an adult.
Other events planned for the War of 1812 Bicentennial Commemoration include a Michigan Philharmonic 1812 Commemorative Concert that includes members of the U.S. Navy band and choir, an F-18 flyover, and the national anthem sung by Karen Newman on Friday, Sept. 7. Other events occurring during 1812 week Sept. 7-9 include military tribute concerts and a Detroit Red Wings Alumni versus Navy charity softball game. An exhibit of 1812 memorabilia and historic artifacts will be on display.
