Senior Complex Set for Grand Re-Opening Following Blaze

The Shelby Manor Senior Community formally re-opens on Wednesday.

More than nine months after a fire displaced residents of the Shelby Manor Senior Community, a grand re-opening is scheduled to help welcome them home.

The party is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday and includes a complimentary lunch for prospective renters, as well as guided tours of the renovation and DJ entertainment.

Approximately 90 senior citizens, many immobile and wheelchair bound, had to be evacuated and even rescued from their balconies on Nov. 17, 2012 when the fire broke out in Building B of the independent senior complex on Schoenherr Road, just north of Hall Road.

The fire was contained to four units, but the entire building sustained extensive water and smoke damage.

Apartments are available starting at $550. Renters must be 55 or older and meet minimum annual income requirements. For more information, call (586) 566-0432 or visit shelbytwp.org/shelby_manor.
