Shelby-Utica to See Road Updates from Special Legislative Funding

Change is coming to 19 ½ Mile Road between Merrill and Utica Road, as well as projects on 25 Mile Road and M-59, according to Utica's State Representative.

Funding set aside in the Fiscal Year 2014 budget for road improvements will help much needed construction projects happen in Macomb County, state Rep. Jeff Farrington announced today.

“Residents can look forward to seeing better road conditions not only in Macomb County, but the whole tri-county area as a result of responsible budgeting,” said Farrington, R-Utica.  “We listened to residents and found ways to fund these projects without raising taxes or fees.  Current resources available to the state should be used before we go back to the taxpayers for more of their hard earned money.”

Farrington was particularly pleased to see $864,000 going toward 19 ½ Mile Road between Merrill and Utica Road, as well as projects on 25 Mile Road and M-59.  In total, $115 million in road and bridge repair projects were announced today through the Roads and Risk Reserve (RRR) Fund, which was created by the Legislature during budget discussions this year.

“This is an example of what is possible when state government acts responsibly and is able to deliver a balanced budget,” Farrington said.  “Completing these projects will not only lead to improved roads in the Detroit metro region, but will also lead to more economic development and job growth across both the region and the entire state.”

In total, $230 million was put into the RRR fund as part of the fiscal year 2014 budget.  The other half of the funds could be appropriated for roads as soon as Feb. 1, 2014.
