Condolence Cards Collected at Restaurant for Family of Girl Killed in Crash

Shelby Township's Corner Clock Restaurant will be collecting cards and condolence letters for the family of a 3-year-old girl who was killed in a crash on 23 Mile and Hayes Road Monday night.

The on 23 Mile and Hayes roads will be collecting cards and well-wishes for the family of a 3-year-old girl who was killed in a crash at the intersection Monday evening.

Owner of the restaurant, Doug Goad told Patch he was one of the first people to arrive to the scene of the , which occured at 8:45 p.m. Monday when a woman ran a red light and smashed into a minivan carrying five people: the girl's parents and two siblings. The driver of the vehicle that ran the light was also killed. The girl's father and siblings were treated for their injuries and released. However, the girl's mother and one sibling remain hospitalized. Police have said preliminary investigations suggest the deceased driver may have been drinking.

when he described onlookers' efforts to save the child, who was rescued from the vehicle by her father and handed to Goad and a woman, who was a nurse, standing by.

"A gal come over ... said she was a nurse and we laid (the girl) on the ground. She began giving her CPR and asked me to give her mouth-to-mouth and she came back a few times," said Goad as he broke down in tears.

The girl's family has requested that their identity not be revealed. However, a friend of the family has agreed to pick up the cards from the restaurant and deliver them to the family in hopes that it will give them encouragement during this very tragic time in their lives.

The idea was born after Patch received numerous emails, and requests on Facebook for information on how to send donations in the child's name and condolence cards.

A box will be placed at the entrance of the Corner Clock Restaurant for the community to drop off cards for the family.
