'Freeze Your Franny' for a Good Cause at Stony Creek

The annual Utica Education Association Staywell event is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25.

Soon enough, "the polar vortex" will be a thing of the past and we will be comfortable with going outside again.

The Utica Education Association hopes that the end of the deep freeze will entice residents outside again, for the annual "Freeze Your Franny" 5K event.

This year's event is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. from Stony Creek Metropark's Eastwood Beach. According to the organization, there were 900 participants at last year's event.

Proceeds from the race will be donated to Turning Point, Macomb County Food Bank and Hawkeye & Friends. Interested parties can register online at freezeyourfranny.com or download the PDF attached to this article.

What's in it for the racers? The USATF course will be cleared and salted if needed, and participants will receive long-sleeve, tech (wicking) shirts. Heated tents will be available, and hot drinks will be served afterward. All participants will receive a finisher medal.
