Looking for a Volunteer Opportunity? Tutor Adults Learning to Read

Macomb Literacy Partners is looking for volunteer tutors who want to teach adults to read.

If your New Year’s resolution involves making an impact on the world, helping one single person better himself or herself or dedicating your time to a non-profit organization, then consider becoming a volunteer tutor to help an adult learn to read.

An estimated 10-13 percent of the population in Macomb County is illiterate.  That means there are seniors who don’t know how to read their prescription pill bottles and adults who can’t fill out job applications.

Macomb Literacy Partners helps two different types of adult learners: the American-born low-level reader who went to school in the USA but didn't master the skills necessary to become a fluent reader—and who now "fakes" it; and the foreign-born adult who is trying to master the mechanics of English.
