Miss Michigan Misses Crown, New York to Reign as Miss America in 2013

Shelby Township native and former Miss St. Clair Shores, Angela Venditti, competed for the title of Miss America on Saturday.

Miss Michigan represented the Mitten State with pride but won't be bringing the Miss America crown home to the Motor City in 2013.

Angela Venditti, of Shelby Township, competed against 52 other women Saturday night at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas for the title of Miss America. Miss New York, Mallory Hytes Hagan, was ultimately crowned and will be the recipient of a $50,000 scholarship.

Venditti arrived in Las Vegas earlier this week to take part in a series of preliminary competitions leading up to the Jan. 12 pageant. She did not advance to the semifinal round.

A former Miss St. Clair Shores, Venditti traveled to the Miss America competition toting her platform of "Above the Influence: Keeping Kids Drug Free."

Crowned Miss Michigan on June 16, 2012, Vendetti said she hopes that by the time her reign is complete, she will have "given youth in our state the tools to live above the influence and the desire to pass them on to their peers," according to the Miss Michigan website.
