Patch's Summer Camp Destination Directory

An ever-growing directory of summer camps offered locally and around the state.

The Shelby Parks & Recreation Department’s 2011 Summer Recreation Day Camp is a six week program that will have you children's minds and bodies active all summer long.

Upon registration parents may choose from these four camp sites:  Switzer Elementary, Morgan Elementary, West Utica Elementary, and Duncan Elementary Schools.

  • Ages: Grades 1-6
  • Cost: $170 for one child and $240 per family for entire 6 weeks
  • Session: June 20 through six weeks: Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Non Shelby or Utica residents will be charged an additional $7)

Enrollment is accepted by phone or in person at the Parks, Recreation & Maintenance Department.  On-line enrollment for this program is not available.

TGA of Macomb

Camp includes morning instruction at three stations (driving range, putting, chipping), plus rules and etiquette, games, lunch and nine holes of golf in the afternoon. A certified instructor will accompany each foursome. The cost includes lunch, green fees, range balls, a collared golf shirt and three TGA logo golf balls. 

  • Ages: Grades 1-9

Macomb Township will play host to a group of British footballers the week of July 25 as they coach hundreds of local kids as part of the British Soccer Camps provided by Challenger Sports. Through British coaching methods, players hone their skills with technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages and daily tournaments offered as part of the camp.

Macomb Community CollegeDrama Workshop

Open to elementary, middle and high school students, this workshop teaches drama skills from theater professionals such as Lou Fazzini, director and founder of All The World's A Stage. The workshop concludes with a performance on July 15.

  • Ages: Grades 1-12
  • Cost: Students in first and second grade are $120, while all others are $195. A $20 discount is available if paid in full by June 3.

Macomb Community CollegeShow Choir Workshop

During this weeklong workshop, students learn vocal technique, song interpretation and dance from professional choreographers and vocal coaches. The week of workshops culminates in a grand finale performance, for which students can audition for solos.

Shepherd’s Gate Lutheran Church5-Day Camp

The day camp includes climbing activities such as wall climbing, crafts, low ropes, slingshot, water activities, euro-bungee, flying squirrel, silly games and much more. Financial aid is available to every family that is in need. For more information and a registration form, click here.

Joey D’s Summer Adventure Camps

Joe Dumars offers a series of traditional and celebrity sports camps along with a wide variety of non-sports programs designed to challenge children mentally as well as physically. Visit the website for a complete listing of camps.

  • Ages: 7-14 (Fieldhouse Adventure Camps, Fieldhouse Adventure Fieldtrips and Fieldhouse Adventure Sports Camps), 4-6 (Fieldhouse Pee Wee Adventure Camps), 18 months-4 years Fieldhouse Lil’ Kickers
  • Cost: From $44 for Fieldhouse members, $54 non members to $225 Fieldhouse members, $235 non members, per camp

Michigan Association for Female Entrepreneurs' Young Entrepreneurs Series Leadership Camp

Participants will receive training in areas such as teamwork, communication, diversity cooperation, problem-solving and conflict resolution. Girls also will learn about diversity and respect, and gain greater awareness of global issues including world hunger, poverty and sustainable development. The program fee includes round trip transportation, three nights lodging, meals and snacks, program activities, program materials and supplies. A limited amount of full scholarships are available, courtesy of this year’s scholarship sponsor, Eileen Fisher, and the Activating Leadership Grant Program for Women and Girls.

Italian Summer Camp

Children will learn the Italian language and culture through games, multimedia and cooperative learning activities. Lunch, snacks and materials are provided each day.
