Shelby Family Asks for Help Finding Missing German Shepherd

An 11-year-old purebred German Shepherd has been missing from his family's home on 25 Mile Road between Van Dyke and Mound since Saturday.

The DeLaura family is asking for the community’s help in fidning their 11-year-old purebred German Shepherd named Dule (pronounced Dooley).

Dule ran away from his home in the Orchards subdivision, on 25 Mile between Van Dyke Avenue and Mound Road on Jan 21.

Jill DeLaura said Dule was playing in the fresh fallen snow around 6:30 a.m. while her husband shoveled the driveway.

“He likes to romp around in the snow. He always comes out when my husband’s shoveling,” she said.

Dule, the friendly dog, usually visits a few neighbors and comes back, but on Saturday he didn’t return from his visits.

DeLaura said same thing happened when Dule was 2-years-old, but he eventually found his way home after a few days.

Dule is a friendly dog that would most likely come to a person if they called his name.  He also speaks German because his first owner spoke only German.

DeLaura said she got Dule from the Canadian Kennel Club when he was 1-years-old.  Dule had entered a police dog training academy in Canada but didn’t pass the course because he wasn’t aggressive enough, said DeLaura.

Dule has a code of numbers written on the inside of his ear. DeLaura said she wasn’t sure if the number is tied to the police dog training or the kennel. He is also wearing a collar and tag.

DeLaura said she has checked all the wooded areas near her home and has contacted Stony Creek Metropark to be on the lookout, called Animal Control and the Humane Society, and she has even posted a notice on Craigslist.

Anyone with information on Dooley’s whereabouts is asked to call DeLaura at 586-291-6016.
