Stony Creek Announces 2013 Dates for Fireworks, Pancake Walk, Egg Scramble

Huron-Clinton Metroparks has released its 2013 events calendar, including dates for many of Stony Creek's most popular events.

The Fourth of July may seem ages away, but planning for Stony Creek Metropark's annual fireworks display is already underway, with the date for this and other popular events now set.

Huron-Clinton Metroparks released its 2013 events calendar Wednesday, with two communitywide events set to take place at Stony Creek in the next few weeks.

First up is the third annual Freeze Your Franny 5K on Jan. 26. Hosted by the Utica Education Association and Utica Paraprofessionals Association, the run/walk is held to promote wellness and raise money for local charities.

On Feb. 3, Stony Creek will bring back its 36th annual Pancake Walk, during which guests are invited to join a park interpreter for a walk through the winter trails near the nature center, followed by a pancake breakfast. Registration and prepayment for this event is required. Call 586-781-9113.

Other major 2013 events at the metropark include:

  • March 23 – Egg Scramble
  • June 22 & 23 – War in the Wilderness Encampment
  • June 30 – Fireworks
  • June 29 – Children’s Day Fun and Games

Through March, Huron-Clinton Metroparks packages including a 2013 Metroparks Annual Vehicle Permit and a $25 Metroparks gift card will be on sale for $39.99 at Costco stores in Southeast Michigan, including the Shelby Township location.

Annual vehicle permits are usually $25 and provide unlimited access to 13 Huron-Clinton Metroparks. A daily vehicle entry permit is $5.

The gift card included in the package can be used to cover golf course greens fees, annual boat permits, picnic shelter rentals, marina fees, interpretive program fees, Turtle Cove entry fees and cross-country ski rentals, as well as to buy annual bag tags to play at four Metropark disc golf courses.
