Storm Carrying Snow, Sleet and Freezing Rain Headed for Shelby Township, Utica

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Shelby Township and Utica from 3 p.m. Tuesday to noon Wednesday.

When it comes to precipitation, Mother Nature just can't seem to make up her mind.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Shelby Township and Utica, and warns residents to prepare for a wintry mix of sleet, snow and freezing rain through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, 2 to 4 inches of snow, rain and sleet was predicted before Wednesday morning. Wind gusts of up to 28 mph, as well as falling temperatures over the next 48 hours, were also in the forecast.

"A plume of deep moisture will stream across southern Michigan late this afternoon through tonight and then linger into Wednesday," the forecast stated.

Around town, everyone was talking about the impending storm. Business owners were using it to entice customers. ("The blizzard is on it's way! Stop in to stock up on pie, hot soup, and savory pot pies!" posted Achatz Handmade Pie Co. on Facebook.)

The sleet happening Tuesday afternoon was predicted to turn to rain by evening, then to heavy snow later tonight.

"Areas along and north of I-69 will receive mainly snow while areas further south receive a wintry mix before transitioning to all snow," the statement indicated.

The winter weather advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. until noon Wednesday.
