The Detroit Institute of Arts Puts Own Spin on the Drive-in Theater

The DIA's Detroit Film Theatre and Mi Community Media offer outdoor animated films for the whole family to enjoy.

Lights, camera, action! That’s your cue to jump in the car and head over to for a night of films, food and fun.

The Detroit Institute of Arts and Mi Community Media are partnering with the Huron Clinton Metroparks to present their Summer Cinema Evenings. This two-day film event will be at Stony Creek on Aug. 19-20 and will feature the animated movies Eleanor's Secret on Friday and Mia and the Migoo on Saturday.  Also being shown are the winning entrants of the 2011 Romeo Student Film Festival.

These family-friendly movies will start playing on the 60-foot screen at dusk at Baypoint Beach. While refreshments will be available, moviegoers are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, food and beverages (but no glass containers) to make their experience the most enjoyable.

Except for the $5 vehicle entry permit, the event is free.  So don’t miss out on this chance to get out with the family and enjoy the beautiful summer evenings.  And that’s a wrap!
