VIDEO: Tara Grant's Memory Alive With 5K/10K Run for Domestic Violence

Hundreds of runners and walkers turned out Saturday at Stony Creek to raise awareness for domestic violence.

More than 300 people braved the cold Saturday and ran and walked in honor of Tara Lynn Grant, who was murdered in 2007 by her husband, Stephen Grant.

To kick off Domestic Violence Month in October, Turning Point of Macomb County held its 5th annual Tara Grant Memorial 5K/10K run at .

Turning Point’s annual Tara Grant race has raised more than $50,000 for victims of domestic violence. All the proceeds go toward helping women with the immediate needs of leaving an abusive home; gas money, clothing, food and shelter.

“I think it’s a great cause. The situation was sad that occurred, but to help women in need—I think it’s a really great cause,” said runner Julie Rizzo.

In March of 2007, several days after Stephen Grant reported his wife missing, parts of Tara Grant’s dismembered body were discovered inside the couple’s Macomb County home and at Stony Creek.

Stephen Grant was convicted of second-degree murder and remains jailed on a 50-80 year sentence for his wife’s murder.

Tara Grant’s mother, sister and children came in from Ohio to attend the event.
