Viewfinder: Young Broadway Star Sings at Shelby in Honor of Friend
Broadway star Elijah Johnson takes time to perform at Shelby Junior High School to raise awareness about leukemia and lymphoma. Students have been fund-raising and will continue to raise money and awareness throughout the year.
has been raising money to help the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Michigan. In an effort to further educate and encourage their students, the school invited two special guests to speak to the students.
Lymphoma survivor Paige Hackenberger spoke to the students about her struggles with the disease and the importance of helping. She lists her top five reasons why having lymphoma can be great, and not so great. Hackenberger often speaks to students about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in an effort to raise awareness.
After Hackenberger's speech, Elijah Johnson, who is a singer, dancer and actor, took the stage to perform a medley of songs for the students. Johnson's friend, a former cast member from The Lion King on Broadway, passed away last October from leukemia. After his performance, Johnson briefly spoke to the students about his friend.

Shelby Junior High School is collecting donations from the students and staff once a week to help contribute to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. They are also holding a raffle to give away T-shirts signed by Johnson after his show. All of the proceeds will go directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
