Wake Up, Shelby and Utica: July 12

Five things every Shelby Township and Utica resident should know this week.

So it’s been almost a month since the kids have gotten out of school, and I know what you’re thinking.

Either (1) it’s been a month already, where does the time go? Or (2) it’s only been a month, can’t the time go faster?

But whether you enjoy the lazy days of summer or are looking forward to the peace and quiet that comes with school days, here are some fun ways to fill up your summer calendar.

Find out what's happening in Shelby-Uticawith free, real-time updates from Patch.

1. Cheapest Gas

Summer wouldn’t be summer without the sun and sweltering temperatures. With that also come many trips to your local pool, park or lake to lay-out and cool off. So to keep your gang (and your car) on the move, make sure to stop by the Kroger Fuel Center on 21 Mile Road to fuel up. Even though it may not be your closest gas station, the $3.42 price at almost 20 cents cheaper than other stations is unbeatable! So head on over to keep both your car and wallet filled up!

2. Beautification Committee Meeting

With school being out, are you starting to miss all your PTA meetings and parent teacher conferences? Well I have a way to fix your post-school blues, the Beautification Committee Meeting this Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. This meeting, in the Employee Lounge of the , is the place to be if you want to find out how the Committee is working to make Shelby Township a cleaner and greener community for you.

3. Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting

And if you really want to get your meeting fix this week and are on an environmental roll, then head on over to the Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting this Thursday at 6 p.m. Make sure you attend this meeting at the if you want to know what goes into making the parks in the Utica community such pleasant places to spend your afternoon.

4. Sail Boat Races

Speaking of parks, make sure you head out to this Thursday for their weekly Sail Boat Races. Whether or not you have a boat, if you have ever want to know how to sail then come out and join the experienced sailors of the Creek Fleet Sailing Club to get out on the water, have some fun and maybe even win some prizes. So journey on over to the Boat Launch to participate in the races, and the event is free except for the vehicle entry permit and boat launch fee.  Don’t miss out, this is your chance to make a splash!

5. Weather this Week

While Monday’s weather was not the nicest weather we have seen with scattered thunderstorms throughout the day, the rest of this week allows for some fun in the sun! Tomorrow is supposed to be a toasty 90 degrees, but the following days cool down to a comfortable 80: prime temperatures to enjoy the sun that will be shining through on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday might bring some t-storms, but the chances are low. So let this week’s soon-to-come bright skies brighten your disposition!
