Box Theater Presents 'Spring Awakening'

The Box Theater takes over the stage at The Emerald Theatre in Mount Clemens with its production of the Tony- and Grammy Award-winning musical "Spring Awakening."

"Spring Awakening" is adapted from Frank Wedekind's 1891 expressionist play about the trials, tears and joys of the teen years. The show was a Broadway smash when it premiered in 2006 featuring a score written by rocker Duncan Sheik.

“Trust me,” says director Rodel Salazar. “The story may come from 1891, but this show is 100 percent today. The music, the subject matter, the language ... it all reflects today’s world.” (With that said, be warned, "Spring Awakening" contains adult themes and language.)

"Spring Awakening" features Jeff Bobick (a 2005 Eisenhower graduate), Kryssy Becker, Alan Neuwirth, Lauren Fuller, Erin Hildebrandt, Stephanie Butler, Andrea Thibodeau, Brittany Michael, Gabriella Meyers, Jose Cabrera II, Michael Stoyanoff, Christiaan Lafata, Gannon Styles, Christopher Dybash and Eric Niece.

Wilde Award-nominated Eleonore Ellero-Groth is music director, and Box Theater favorite Yana Levovna has choreographed the show.

“We are really excited to be back at The Emerald,” says producer John Forlini. “We were amazed at the huge turnout we had last summer. We filled The Emerald all three nights we did RENT.”

"Spring Awakening" promises some improvements over past Box productions, with a brand-new sound system. "For this show, we are bringing in a whole new professional sound system so the show will not only look awesome ... but sound awesome, too," says Forlini.

"Spring Awakening" showtimes are 7 p.m. Feb. 10, 11, 12, 16 and 17. Tickets are $25 for reserved seating, and $20 for general admission. A portion of every ticket sold will benefit Turning Point, an organization which helps victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and homelessness.

The Emerald is located at 31 N. Walnut in downtown Mount Clemens. Tickets can be reserved by calling The Box (office) at 586-954-2311.
