Michigan Humane Society to Unveil Its New Sterling Heights Adoption Center

Who knows, you might be able to spot a tuxedo cat donning a tux to the Michigan Humane Society's (MHS) gala opening of its newest adoption center. The new site is at the Sterling Heights Petco location, and the party kicks off at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6.

Those who attend will enjoy a red carpet scene populated by adoptable animals decked out in tuxes in tails as they arrive via limousine and are escorted by MHS volunteers and staffers into the new center.

“This is going to be an incredible way to celebrate the opening of MHS’ newest adoption center,” said Lori Elliott, Petco Adoption Center manager for MHS. “Bright lights, tuxes, and two-legged stars walking the red carpet! It’s going to be a great time, and it’s all to help more pets find the loving homes they deserve.”

Guests can nibble on hors d’oeuvres and sip light refreshments at the Petco party. Those looking for a new four-legged friend can check out the dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and rabbits up for adoption.

This is the first MHS off-site adoption partner site to feature both cats and dogs, and it's the first to provide a full-service adoption center staffed by MHS employees during Petco store hours.

There is no charge to attend the opening gala celebration, but please RSVP by Monday, Oct. 31 by emailing Marie Skladd at mskladd@michiganhumane.org. Attire is dressy/black tie-optional.

Petco is located at 13701 Lakeside Circle in Sterling Heights. This event is made possible thanks to the generosity of Petco, Olive Garden, Randazzo’s Formal Wear and Limousines, and S+R Event Rental.
