Moda Novia Bridal Atelier

Shelby-Utica fashion boutiques offer great new styles and accessories every week. Check back every Friday for the latest in tops, bottoms, bags, accessories and more.

This week, Shelby-Utica Patch's Fashion Friday visited Moda Novia Bridal Atelier on Lakeside Boulevard.

The formal boutique is owned by Lisa Colon, head seamstress at Brides by Demetrio’s. Colon has been in the dressmaking business for more than 20 years. She opened Moda Novia almost a year ago after working out of her home in Holly for many years.

Colon designs her own dresses at Moda Novia. Brides may come in with an idea or a picture, and Colon turns it into reality. Many people also go to Moda Novia to remake designer gowns that may be too expensive.

Moda Novia specializes in wedding and formal gowns. Colon realized the large population of European and Middle Eastern brides in the area wanted dresses that are different. Many of her dresses are big and bold, with rhinestones, beading and more. Colon said that you can find these types of dresses at other places, but “when they can’t find what they’re looking for somewhere else, they come here.”

Colon said about 65 percent of the dresses she sells are custom-made creations. All of the dresses are affordable, and Colon makes an effort to work with any budget.

The store offers alterations on dresses purchased outside as well as in-house.

Moda Novia also carries a variety of jewelry, veils and hair pieces.

Colon recently donated dresses to some local churches, as well as The Salvation Army.
