Gifts for Him

1. As the old-saying goes, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach.

If you can't afford to fly to Rome, there's always Tivoli's Wood Brick Oven Pizzeria in Utica for authentic Italian thin crust pizza.

2. Planning to cook the Valentine's Day meal at home? Well, there's always dessert.

Take him out for a sundae or shake at Maceri's Soup & Scoop. Serving up to 40 flavors of ice cream at a time, just about any combination of sweets is possible.

3. Bring back the nightcap and get him something to warm up those cold winter nights.

Consider a fine sipping liquor, such as Rémy Martin cognac or Di Saronno Originale. These and other liquors are available at your corner Buscemi's or party store.

Gifts for Her

1. A bottle with her name on it.

Take her on a tour of six Michigan wineries without ever leaving town. Book a tasting at the new Michigan By The Bottle Tasting Room on Hayes. Try a variety of Michigan-made wine, cheese and chocolate for around $10.

2. Tickets to a musical or play.

Not all Valentine's Day gifts have to come on Feb. 14. A stage-version of the beloved Jane Austen novel Pride & Prejudice is coming to the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts Feb. 21-21 and the Tony award-winning musical A Chorus Line will be there March 8-9. Buy your tickets online and surprise her with them tonight. Check out the center's full schedule.

3. Go traditional.

You can never go wrong with chocolate and flowers. They're an irresistible combination and one you can still grab last minute. Head to La Mia Dolci or The Mall at Partridge Creek for your gal's favorite candy, then stop by one of Shelby Township and Utica's florists who will no doubt have extra blooms on hand for situations just like yours.
