Another Shelby Bar Bites the Dust: Teddy's Times Square Closes

Teddy's Times Square owners have locked the doors to the sports bar and club on Hayes Road; more than 25 employees were told they are out of a job.

in Shelby Township on Hayes Road has closed down.

The bar's owners locked the doors last Monday and turned off the lights.

“They just locked the front door and left it as is,” said Andy Sheys, Teddy's Times Square manager. “It was actually pretty surprising.”

There was no announcement or sign updating the public about the closure on the door.

The more than 25 employees were notified that they were out of a job the next morning when they were called to a special meeting at the bar to turn in their keys.

Teddy's Times Square was a neighborhood bar that served drinks and food day and night as patrons watched the sports game du jour on the flat-screen TVs that lined the walls.  After dark, DJs rocked the house and it resembled a dance club more than a sports bar.

Part-owner and operator Bill Serra told Patch he didn’t want to talk about why the club was closing, but he did say it was going to be going on the market.

There is speculation among employees that the bills were piling up and the bar wasn’t able to make ends meet.

“It was on a slow decline. Everybody that was there had been there since the beginning and was burnt out,” said Sheys.

Sheys also said he believes the location played a part in the bar’s demise.

“The plaza is cursed,” he said. The plaza where the bar is located is nearly empty.

The closure comes less than two weeks after Club 22, just half a mile north, announced it was closing and reopening as a sports bar.
