Crafty Ladies Open Boutique For Local Artist Community

Mother and daughter open boutique in Shelby Township to sell craft consignment and homemade decor.

A mother and daughter duo have created a haven in Shelby Township for crafty men and women, with the opening of Simply Creative Boutique.

Simply Creative Boutique, located on Van Dyke, just south of 24 Mile Road, is a craft consignment and homemade décor boutique that sells everything handmade from jewelry to scarves, re-purposed furniture, baby items such as blankets and cribs and customized wood carvings.

The store was the brainchild of Jennifer Kaczmarek and her mother Jackie Waatti. The two said they shared a passion for crafts and were looking for a way to build a community for crafters to learn, buy, sell and flourish.

"When I was looking for a place to find other crafters to keep inspiration going I couldn’t find anywhere around," said Kaczmarek.

That's why Simply Creative will offer memberships for crafters and a myriad of classes from crochet, wine bottle cutting, to jewelry-making and even drawing. Depending on the level of membership, crafters will be invited to join Kaczmarek and her mother to design shows across the country, treasure hunting excursions and even weekend craft retreats.

"We trying to be the one stop place for the crafting community and inspire each other to work together and support each other," added Kaczmarek.

Every three months, a new lot of craft consigners will be invited to showcase their designs at the boutique, and even members will be allowed to display their creations.

"Everything has to be approved and be quality handmade stuff. All items sold will be displayed next to other unique and quality handmade items,” said Kaczmarek.

"Most of the designers are local from Michigan but that doesn’t mean we won’t bring anyone from out of state but we try to keep it local," she added.

Kaczmarek, a Macomb Township resident, is no stranger to owning a business in Shelby Township. Last year, she helped her husband opened New Way Martial Arts, about a mile down the road in Shelby Township.

Kaczmarek, a mother of four, said now that her husband has been able to realize his dreams, she felt it was time to follow hers and open a crafting boutique.
