Dan's Excavating of Shelby Township has been announced as the successful bidder on the Interstate-96 reconstruction project between Newburgh and Telegraph roads, known as the "96 Fix." The 7-mile-long reconstruction project includes repairing 37 overpasses, new freeway lighting and other utility upgrades.

Preliminary work on this $148 million investment is expected to begin in late January after the North American International Auto Show, and will focus on relocating utilities. This work will require intermittent lane closures on the eastbound and westbound service drives, with shoulder closures on the freeway below.

According to the company's website, Dan's Excavating has existed since 1974 and it handles a wide variety of construction projects.
