For 12-year-old Bettina Winkler, fast runs in the family.
The St. Johns Rochester Lutheran sixth grader has begun training for the 2016 summer Olympics after taking first place in February at the junior Olympics AAU Nationals for indoor track in the 50-and 200-meter dash.
Winkler’s mom, Helga Dahm-Winkler, is the marketing manager for in Shelby Township, and part of the Eitel Dahm Motor Group that also owns in Shelby Township, Porsche of the Motor City in Eastpointe and Audi of Rochester Hills.
Dahm-Winkler, who is Bettina's number one fan, has a second full time job: chauffer for her daughter.
Dahm-Winkler joked that luckily she has a fast vehicle to drive her daughter over an hour away several times a week to train at the Ann Arbor Athletic Club to work with coaches Ron Beasley and Joseph Codrington.
Just two years after Winkler’s fourth grade athletic director noticed she was outpacing all the male and female children on the playground, the Clarkston family’s life has been accelerated and they are now on the fast track to training for the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro.
Dahm-Winkler said her daughter has an incredible drive and often comes home after hours of track practice to perfect her form on the starting blocks.
“Running makes me happy,” says the 12-year-old.
