Local Author Shares Story in 'From Pain to Parenthood'

Rose Petal Publications owner and writer Deanna Kahler offers books for sale as well as writing services.

Kahler recently submitted information about the business through the Small Business Spotlight.

Here are her answers.

What does your business offer? 

Rose Petal Publications offers books for sale as well as writing services. "From Pain to Parenthood" is available through my company. In January, readers will also be able to purchase "Echoes of Paradise," a fiction paranormal romance book. Later in 2014, "A Rare Gem," a children’s story about embracing differences, will also be available. I offer group discounts for book clubs and local organizations. I’m also happy to speak at events that address the topics of miscarriage, infertility and adoption. And, I’m available for author appearances and book signings at area businesses.

For the writing services portion of my business, I write and edit articles, press releases, speeches, web site content and promotional material. I specialize in corporate and employee communications as well as publications.

What's your most popular product or service? 

My book, "From Pain to Parenthood," is my most popular product so far. It has been very well received by readers, and many people have told me that they found my story to be touching and inspiring. I suspect my fiction book will be even more popular when it's released, since it will appeal to a much larger audience.

What's a fact about your business that most customers probably don't know?

I’m a one-woman operation. Everything my company offers comes directly from me. This adds a more personal touch that customers will appreciate.

How did your business come to be? 

Rose Petal Publications is the natural progression of years of writing experience combined with my latest creative endeavor: becoming an author. After I published my first book, "From Pain to Parenthood: A Journey Through Miscarriage to Adoption," I quickly realized that being an author was about much more than simply writing a book. In order to reach people and truly make a difference in their lives, I had to do a lot of marketing and advertising on my own. I spent many hours each day, working to share my book with the media, adoption professionals, counselors and the general public. I also began serving as a guest blogger at an adoption web site and was invited to participate in online group events that support infertility and adoption. At that point, it occurred to me that since I have a “product” and am already putting in many hours of work, that I should also have a business that supports my efforts. It made sense to offer writing services as well because that is my area of expertise.

Why did you choose the area you did?

Writing has always been a part of my life, and I excelled at it from a very early age. I wrote stories and poems as a child, wrote for my high school newspaper and then went on to earn my Bachelor's degree in Communications. After college, I worked as a writer and editor for various companies before my daughter was born. I cannot imagine my life without writing. It’s just a part of who I am.
