Mother's Day Gift Ideas: From Cookies to the Gift of Beauty

On Sunday, we celebrate Mother's Day, and nothing says, "I love and appreciate you" like a little token of your affection.

So, to make it a little easier on you, here are five local gift ideas to get the ball rolling.

Nothing helps mothers and daughter's bond like pouring over makeup. Christian Dior's Celebrity Makeup artists Ashunta Sheriff will host a two-hour class at Macy's on May 18 to teach women how to properly apply makeup and the latest trends in makeup.  Sheriff's celebrity clientele includes Alicia Keys, Rihanna and Jennifer Hudson to name a few.

Three classes will be offered May 18: 11 a.m, 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. The classes are $50 to join, but participants will receive a $50 credit toward their Dior purchase. To reserve your seats, call 586-566-2971.

Take your mother to the annual Perennial Swap at the May 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Plant swaps are a great way to share plants that have overgrown their spaces. This is a wonderful opportunity to share in your mother's passion for gardening, help her meet other gardeners from the area and acquire some new perennials. If your mother is a new Gardner, don't be afraid to come without anything to trade. There will be many plants to share.

4. Spend Some time Outdoors with Mom

Warm up with your family during the Moms and Families Campfire at Stony Creek May 12. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. families can spend an evening outdoors at the Nature Center of for a pre-Mother's Day celebration campfire featuring songs, stories, and marshmallow-roasting. 5. Help Mom's Stress Melt Away with Relaxing Massage
