Small Business Saturday: Boutiques Grab For Holiday Shoppers with Deep Discounts

Boutiques in Shelby and Utica are hoping to lure in holiday shoppers who are opting out of Black Friday with deep discounts, free gifts and even school fundraisers.

While Black Friday may be known as the busiest shopping day of the year for large retailers, independently owned boutiques in Shelby Township are hoping the next day, Small Business Saturday, will be their busiest day of the year.

Small Business Saturday is a day that is designated nationally to supporting local busineses.

Most boutiques in Shelby Township are taking full advantage of the holiday shopping frenzy and offering deep discounts this weekend, and some are even throwing in free gifts, to lure tired Hall Road shoppers back to the mile roads.

“I don’t try to compete with them. I have really unique products,” said Lauren Curis, part owner of The Spoiled Girl on 22 Mile and Hayes roads.

Curis added that Black Friday is not for people who are expecting high levels of customer service. At The Spoiled Girl, the staff will be doubled over the weekend, and personal shoppers will be on hand to give customers one-on-one attention for what is expected to be the accessory boutique’s biggest sale ever.
