'Mompreneurs' Make Splash In Local Beauty Business with Spray Tan Parties

Two local "mompreneurs" bring the all natural and organic spray tans used by Dancing with the Stars to suburban women with traveling spray tan parties.

We've all heard of purse parties, jewelry parties, even Botox parties—all of which involve a little booze, lots of laughs and a suburban woman's basement—but this one was new even for Patch: spray tan parties.

I'm sure you've all heard of Dancing With the Stars? Ever wonder how the stars get that healthy glow that shines through the cameras and shaves off a few pounds—even though we all know they've been inside practicing the Mambo for the past week straight to pull off that flawless dance.

Well, two Shelby Township stay-at-home moms figured it out, and they figured out how to make a few extra bucks while giving their friends and family a glowing healthy tan.

Friends Connie Michael and AnnMarie Di-Legge recently began their new business, Pure Sunless Tan, after months of research, training and becoming certified technicians.

"It's a great way to have some fun, meet women and have a job but not a career," said Michael, a mother of two young children.

Michael said the partnership is working out well because while one of them is busy spraying, the other can watch the kids and entertain the guests.

"We're really having fun" said Di-Legge, who added that she finds spray tanning women while listening to some hip-hop music rather therapeutic.

Both Michael and Di-Legge are no strangers to at-home businesses.  While their little ones sleep, they're busy marketing, designing and hosting parties. They've run the gamut of at-home parties from purses, skin products, Tupperware and children's clothing. In fact, both own online children's boutiques. Michael makes and sells crochet children's hats and photo props on Oh So Sweet Boutique and Di-Legge sold high-end baby clothing on Ciucci Courture.

"We've had a lot of parties but we have now found something everyone can be a part of," said Michael, laughing as she thought about her grandmother's request to be spray-tanned.

Here's How it Works

Just as in most at-home shopping parties, there is always something in it for the host. Anyone who hosts a Pure Sunless Tan party will receive a free treatment. But, if you want the technicians to come out to you, there must be more than 10 guaranteed clients. Otherwise, hosts with at least six guests can bring the party, (drinks and appetizers included) to the technician's home—which I might add is a very nice place.

Prices range from $28 to $35. Package deals are offered.

All the products are all natural, and some colors are organic—even safe enough to use on pregnant women. Michael says the spray tans are a safe alternative to tanning and can be huge relief for busy moms who no longer have time to sit outside and sun worship.
