Steiny's 'Mama and Papa Bear' Serve Up Homemade Tavern Dishes

Steiny's Tavern opens in Shelby Township with fresh food and new outlook on your your local sports bar and restaurant.

Jeff and Cheryl Steinhurst affectionately known as "Mama and Papa Bear" can be found on any given day cooking up homemade gourmet meals in the back of their new Shelby Township restaurant, Steiny's Tavern.

The Steinhurst's took over on the corner of 25 Mile and Shelby roads, and transformed it into what they call a "rare combination of a drinkery, and an eatery operated by a friendly and fun-loving team of servers and managers."

Upon entering the tavern, you’re immediately greeted by the phrase, “Come for the food, stay for the party,” written on the wall.

And that’s exactly the atmosphere the husband and wife team wanted to create.

“Our ideal customer is anyone between the ages of 2 and 99 and really hungry and thirsty,” said Cheryl Steinhurst.

The dynamic duo has poured their hospitality experience and excitement for fine cuisine into the new restaurant.

Cheryl Steinhurst helped launch the banquet center at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester Hills and Jeff's passion for food has inspired many of the restaurant's specialties, including the In-house smoked items, the Ooy, Gooy Macaroni and Cheese, Portuguese Seafood Soup and mouth-watering smoked gouda cheese-fried raviolis.

“One of our most popular dishes is our turkey Rueben because its fresh turkey and we smoke it in-house with our smoker out back,” said Cheryl Steinhurst.

The restaurant opened its doors to the public on Sept. 1, and the Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon-cutting at 4 p.m. on Oct. 4.

But the real grand opening celebration will be the following weekend with the public invited to try free food samples, revel in the Budweiser and Miller Light representatives and sample some of the tavern's wine list Oct. 14 and 15.
