New Book Highlights Best Practices of Michigan’s Recession-Proof Small Businesses

The Success Code distills the nine principles of 50 Michigan small business leaders who prospered during the recession.

February 10, 2014 - Utica, Michigan – Metro Detroit business coach Dawn Drozd published a new book, THE SUCCESS CODE: 9 PRINCIPLES FOR SMALL BUSINESS SUCCESS IN ANY ECONOMY (ClearVision Media; $19.95, February 10, 2014), an in-depth look at 50 Michigan companies that survived the 2007-2009 recession and the nine principles of success she uncovered among them.

Drozd distilled the nine success principles from the results of a 2011 study she conducted of hundreds Michigan businesses. Participating companies included manufacturing, retail, construction, personal and medical services, with annual revenues ranging from $250K to $12M.

“In 2011, I started talking to successful owners whose businesses had continued to thrive, despite the downturn. I wanted to know how business owners operating in Michigan, one of the hardest-hit states, defied the odds. I spent 12 months interviewing over 50 small business owners who had steady or increased revenue between 2007 and 2011.” Drozd described the study that led to her book.

“What I learned from the study was information that I wished that I had had, when my husband and I started our first business in the early 1990s, so I captured the best practices to write The Success Code.”
