Bank Robbery Suspect Nabbed on Van Dyke With Cash in Car

Information in this crime brief was supplied by the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. Where arrests apply, they do not indicate convictions.

A 21-year-old Troy man was arrested Tuesday in connection to a bank robbery at Fifth Third Bank on Van Dyke, police said.

At 1:23 p.m., a man handed the teller a note at the Washington Township bank, demanding money before fleeing. Bank employees gave police the suspect's description. A road police sergeant apprehended the suspect around 1:43 p.m. at the Mobil Gas Station on Van Dyke near the bank, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.

The man, who had an undisclosed amount of cash in his car's center console and no weapon, was identified by bank surveillance images as the suspected thief. He was taken to Macomb County Jail in anticipation of a Wednesday arraignment, pending the issuance of an arrest warrant, the Sheriff's Office states.
