Check Out the Happenings Around town this Weekend

Something for everyone this weekend: Cinco de Mayo fun, comedy, ballet, farmers and antiques markets, and a Cold War lecture by Ike's granddaughter.


Where/When: Sherwood Brewing Company; 5 p.m. May 5.
Why Go: It's Cinco de Mayo, for one thing, and Sherwood is celebrating an Aztec Ale release at 5, plus they'll have Mexican food specials all evening long. Then at 9 p.m. the laughs begin, with Brew Ha Ha headliner Mark Knope taking the stage. Knope's act includes sound effects, celebrity impersonations and more.
Pricing: Comedy show is free with two-drink minimum.


Where/When: The Lorenzo Cultural Center; 7 p.m. May 5.
Why Go: The latest Lorenzo Center exhibit focuses on the 1950s, and today's headlining speaker is Susan Eisenhower, granddaughter of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. She is also a strategist, international affairs expert, author and distinguished lecturer. Today she will share personal reflections on her grandfather and his presidency in her lecture, "The Russians Are Coming! Eisenhower and the Cold War."
Pricing: $15 for the lecture, or $5 for seniors/students/military; or $20 to attend the 5:30 p.m. Meet & Greet and the presentation. Call 586-286-2222 for tickets.

Where/When: Macomb Center for the Performing Arts; 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. May 6, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. May 7.
Why Go: Enjoy a ballet brought to life on stage, as the Macomb Ballet Company performs the fairy tale classic, Snow White. Go ahead, and take a bite.
Pricing: $12-15.

Where/When: By the Knights of Columbus Grounds, 44425 Utica Road; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. May 7, and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. May 8.
Why Go: In the mood for one-of-a-kind finds? Look no further than the Utica Antiques Market, where you can browse thousands of items set up by dozens of vendors.
Pricing: $5 admission.

Where/When: ; Saturday, May 7, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Why Go: The Shelby Farmers Market is now open Saturdays. Drop by and shop for locally grown produce, specialty products and area-made crafts. Plus there will be cooking demonstrations featuring in-season fruits and vegetables.
Pricing: Open to all, and free to attend.
