Continued High Temps, Poor Air Quality Lead to Ozone Alert for Friday

A heat advisory is also in effect through Saturday at 9 p.m., as temperatures in the 90s continue into the weekend.

With warm, humid weather likely to continue tomorrow, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has issued another "Air Action Day" alert for Friday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts Friday's daytime high could reach 93, under mostly sunny skies. A heat advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. Saturday. The NWS warns that high temperatures and humidity could lead to heat-related illnesses.

People and businesses are encouraged to avoid these activities on Air Action days:

  • Refueling vehicles or topping off when refueling
  • Using gasoline-powered lawn equipment
  • Using charcoal lighting fluid

Everyone is encouraged to car pool, use their bicycles or walk, and delay or combine errands when possible. Active children and adults, and persons with respiratory diseases such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion, the MDEQ advises.
